The Back Passage

First book! Yay! I think I finished this in the last days of 2008, but it gets the dubious honor of kickstarting this blog.

Title: The Back Passage
Author: James Lear
Published: 2006 by Cleis Press Inc.
Genre: Fiction/Gay & lesbian, murder and sex
Pages: 199 steamy pages

An Agatha Christie -type whodunit set in rural England of the 1920's with lots of sex (of the gay variety) and good humour.

I read the first 55 pages in one sitting, and during those pages the main character had cockteased his best friend, had sex in a pond and in the outhouse of the local police station. If that isn't a brilliant beginning for a book, I don't know what the hell is.

Oh yes, and then there was the murder, as well.

I refuse to admit that I read a lot of porny books like this (the truth shall be revealed here, eventually), but I doubt they can come (no pun intended) much better than this. The murder plot is a puzzle, and the family of suspects do not make it any easier for the reader or the main character to figure out. Lucky for him, and the scapegoat, he can abstain from boinking half the household long enough to solve the mystery. Also lucky for him, he can get answers with sex. And the reader isn't complaining, either.

I must admit, I bought this one purely because of the title, and it delivered far more than what I had expected. A fun, quick and absolutely sexy read which I can recommend to anyone who likes their murder mysteries, especially with a good portion of cock.

"My head still spinning from the violent events of the last hour, I raced up the stone steps and regained the back passage. How many more times would I have to thrust my way up and down that dark, dank tunnel before my weekend at Drekeham Hall was over?"

Oh yeah, I enjoyed that.
